Identity Thief Sticks AT&T, T-Mobile with $8 Million Bill

A man has been arrested in New York for allegedly participating in an international telecommunications fraud scheme that used more than 1,000 stolen identities to activate fraudulent mobile phone accounts. He then made telephone calls to fraudulent overseas numbers that charged a premium connection fee.

Cold Huddled Masses: Free Wifi Arrives Near Statue of Liberty

Immortalized in the poem of Emma Lazarus, a poem on the Statue of Liberty pedestal says, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” A new kind of free has arrived nearby: free WiFi. New Yorkers can now access WiFi free of charge at Battery Bosque and the ferry landing in Battery Park, which is near Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, and other harbor activities. According to Marketwatch, the launch is part of a five-year digital initiative to provide free WiFi at 26 locations in 20 New York City parks across the five boroughs. Read More

Inside the Mind of an iPad Hacker: Helpful or Hurtful?

Two men, part of a hacker group known as Goatse Security, have been accused of breaking into servers run by AT&T in order to steal the email addresses of more than 120,000 iPad customers. Possible victims of the hacking include New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, news anchor Diane Sawyer, movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
